Milan : Getting Around

The first few hours in Milan was tricky. We knew which tram to hop on and we were sure which bus to board but once we stepped out of the station, everything seemed overwhelming! So here’s to share a few information for those who are thinking about going to Milan. Hopefully it helps ease your way around the city.
[1] There are 3 main public transportation in Milan. They have a very good metro and tram system. Not to forget the regular buses. They are frequent and cheap – probably one of many things that I love about Milan. We bought a ticket that costs us 3 Euro that can be use for Metro, tram and certain buses (valid for 24 hours). You can always purchase the tickets in the station itself, preferably from most of the convenient stores. Or you can just go ahead and purchase it from the machine. Do have a map route map with you and do not forget the landmarks of your stop if you are foreign to the language.
For the buses, it’s not often that they display the name of the street they were about to stop inside the bus. So keep an eye on your bus stops closely or you’ll probably miss it. DO NOT forget to stamp your tickets! You’ll find the stamp machines in the vehicle itself. Dan jangan ambil remeh pasal tiket. It will look as though merugikan untuk beli tiket sebab tak ada conductor di dalam untuk check – but just a few days before our flight home, ada spot check besar-besaran. Pihak berkuasa will just get into the bus from 3 of the main doors and block all the passengers from going out. Dia akan minta biglietti (tickets) or else kena penalty yang mahal.
[2] Halal food can be found along via Padova street if you stop at Loreto Metropolitan Station. Just hop on bus number 56 and step out of the bus just before the Giulietti stop. The usual kebabs and pizzas can be found along the road.
[3] Study the basics of Italian! We were struggling in Milan because it is not as easy to communicate with the locals as only little of them speak English.
[4] Bring along your passports everywhere you go. We did a mistake not having it with us one night. Just when we were a few steps away from our Hotel, a Carabinieri stopped us and asked for our travelling documents. We didn’t have with us! Thankfully, dia lepaskan after we answered his Italian question with an innocent face.
[5] If you want to show how much of things that you want/need with the locals, be advised that 1 starts with your thumb and not your index finger. Kalau tunjuk 1 menggunakan index finger, they will easily assume that you wanted 2.
I’ll add more if anything comes back to mind.

Takpa, buku translation ada! Kena berusaha sikit je. Tapi kadang-kadang kelakar jugak. Kitorang tanya satu, dua patah perkataan je. Dia bantai 5 ayat sekali! Terkial-kial buka buku translation balik. Hehe.
