Milan : Arrival

Getting to Milan is surprisingly easy. Selepas mendarat di Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo, there was a line of busses waiting to drive us to the Milan station. It takes up to 45 minutes getting into the city. Walaupun the bus ticket that we bought was not valid for another 2 hours after landing, the conductor insisted us to get on the bus. Just like an open ticket.
Checking into the hotel was when we realized that language barrier is going to be a whole lot of problem. Hanya selepas 3 jam baru kami dapat masuk bilik and settle down. But when we got out of the room not much later, you wouldn’t believe how relieved I am to finally able to pusing satu area Duomo, terdongak-dongak just to get a good look at the beautiful buildings, wonders of architecture and its history.

[1] Duomo – symbol of the city with its huge proportions, towers over the piazza. [2] Just right in front of the Piazza. We chased the poor pigeons away. Hana was spot on when she advised me to keep our eyes open for scams. Ramai yang target us and berusaha untuk get some money out of us sebab I was wearing tudung at the time (they said they were muslims too just to get our attention). Thanks Hana! [3] Gelleria Vittorio Emanuelle II – linking Piazza del Duomo and Piaza della Scala. It’s a glass-roofed arcade and suitable for those who feel that it is worth to indulge in a pricey cappuccino to want the perpetual parade of stylish locals. Gucci pun ada café tau! Kami hanya sempat jeling price list depan kedai je lah. [4] Piazza della scala – is a pretty square in Milan, where the most popular opera house Teatro alla Scala.

Kak Farah, terdongak dongak tu yang tak tahan tu:) Mesti amazingly structured kan. Italy was so great with building I guess then.
Kak farah pun tak tahan to one extend! Lenguh, ok! Hehe. Oh yes, extraordinary buildings.
One thing that caught my eyes first time sampai Italy was their balconies. Who would of thought balconies boleh nampak so adorable? I’ll get the pictures up here if I ever find one in the picture folders.
this brings back a whole bunch of memories. oh i miss backpacking in europe :)
next time if u are going to places that speaks the language u dont, u should make some homework before u depart.
i usually print out all the addresses of the places i wanted to go and get a map. So if i cant find my way i just go find a stranger on the road and just show them the address and the map. Normally they would just point it on the map or use sign language to show u the way. It works most of the time. But careful while choosing the stranger, pick the ones yang nampak baik lah. Pakcik2 dengan anak kecik ke, yang nampak well dressed ke…jangan selambe je tah sape2. bahaye :P
Aku berhempas pulas buat homework sebelum berkunjung tiba ke Italy. I thought I’ve mastered the basics, tapi lepas betul-betul interact with the locals, lintang-pukang juga lah. Imagine aku buat hand signal nak mintak “clothing iron” dari pihak hotel. Took a while juga lah. Hehe.
MSO is the best travelling partner lah I tell you. He did ALL the research weeks before departure. All sorts of maps sudah print out and studied. Even routes for metro, trams and buses pun he had it all up in his head. Bila sampai sana aku rasa macam dia dah pernah pergi tempat tu before. Fuuuh.
But Alhamdulillah sepanjang perjalanan, despite all the minor setbacks (ada lah sikit problem dengan hotel), everything went as planned. Ke hulu hilir aku bawa map dengan guide book! Macho kan? Although the locals in Milan doesn’t speak English, they were friendly and generous. Best, best.
ohh lupe…the easiest way is to get a GPS enabled phone and download the map. We get our way around venice this way…senang gile! Set ke setting untuk WALKING kalau nak pusing2 kat bandar.
Encik Taufiq,
Next time alert aku BEFORE aku terbang pergi tempat tu eh? Haha. Memang most of the time map sebesar tingkap rumah melekat depan muka je masa jalan.
